SAFE Communications Internship
Salem Alliance for the Environment
Job Title: SAFE Communications Internship
Location: Remote; on occasion in Salem
Reports to: Executive Director
Duration: Spring Semester
Compensation: $25/hr
Context:
Salem Alliance for the Environment (SAFE) addresses local environmental challenges in Salem, Massachusetts. Salem is a 400-year-old coastal city with a diverse population and a storied past. Deindustrialization decline, climate change, tourism, and gentrification all impact our urban landscape. Through its advocacy and activism, SAFE, founded in 2001, has played a key role in making Salem a leader in meeting the environmental challenges of the 21st century.
We were founded over 22 years ago to shut down the coal plant at our shores, and now we’re thrilled to be welcoming offshore wind to our shore. As Salem’s port transitions into an offshore wind marshaling yard, SAFE is working closely to ensure that our environmental justice community comes first and that the jobs created benefit Salem and greater North Shore residents, and that our port and region are protected from increased emissions expected from this transition.
Scope:
- Write blogs about our work and local environmental projects and opportunities
- Create social media content and support our Facebook and Instagram presence
- Explore the future of SAFE’s X account
- Attend tabling events and talks
- Write notes and reports for working group meetings
- Support in transition of SAFE’s website, as needed
Where applicable, there is an additional opportunity for a professional development stipend.
Required skills and experience:
- Ability to work independently and in teams with a willingness to learn and be curious
- An understanding and interest in Environmental Justice
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
To Apply:
Please send a short paragraph in the email about why you are excited for this role and resume to bbain@salemsafe.org. Please put “SAFE Internship Application” in the subject line.
